When fertilizing maize one of the challenges lies in striking the optimum balance between fertilizer application standards and fertilisation recommendations. Within six weeks the maize plant produces three quarters of its biomass. Thus, maize has the highest daily growth of all indigenous crops. For optimum growth maize must be able to have sufficient nitrogen in this period. Controlled release of nitrogen without any unwanted N losses is the challenge here. Novurea fits perfectly in this fertilisation strategy.
Just like many other crops, nitrogen is a key nutrient for maize. There must be sufficient nitrogen in order to obtain a good yield and dry matter production. Unlike many other crops, maize does not have the capability to convert excess nitrogen into extra dry matter production; instead, it will leave this unused in the soil. Unused nitrogen signifies an increase in the nitrate residue. So, as far as maize is concerned, we need to look for the best solution, whereby the last kilogram of the applied nitrogen is also converted into dry matter production.
To support juvenile maize growth approximately 20 to 30 kg of nitrogen per hectare is required. The nitrogen in Novurea+S consists of a small part ammonium (7%)- and a large part urea nitrogen 31%). In short, a part ammonium that is relatively swift to be absorbed by the juvenile maize plant and a part urea which is released over a longer period. A nitrogen ratio that fits perfectly with the requirement for maize during initial growth.
Row fertilization with nitrogen, mineral fertilizers as well as slurry, provides 1.25 times better nitrogen effect than full area application. Novurea+S can be applied very well using modern row fertilizers.
Maize requires high potassium levels. Well-developed maize can absorb in excess of 300 kg K20 per hectare. Most fields contain adequate or more than sufficient potassium reserves so that absorption in particular is certain to be equalised via fertilization. For maize recommendations up to 250 kg K2O per hectare are not uncommon on fields with a potassium content within the target zone. Fields with a higher potassium reserve will, of course, have sufficient with a lower potassium fertilization. By blending Novurea with Potassium fertilizers the grower can apply the desired nitrogen and potassium in a single operation. This blend is generally tailor-made. Please ask Triferto for your needs.
Between 2013 and now growers have enjoyed the price benefit. The price per kg of nitrogen of Novurea was lower than that of ammonium nitrate. Via the N calculator you can easily see the financial benefit per hectare as a result of a lower price per kg of nitrogen from Novurea. Ask us for an offer and make the calculation and compare.
